Happy birthday to Anthony, who uh… I dunno. Can’t think of a snarky remark right now. I’m too busy studying for MIDTERMS T_T (I’ve got two on Wednesday.)

Happy birthday to Sam, who is now (officially, about three times over) OLD.

  • Whoa, why does Steven Harper’s speech suddenly sound like an Oscar acceptance speech?
  • Why is Steven Harper still so scary?
  • I like the fact that Paul Martin played cards while the election results were coming in. It reminded me of a certain game played in a certain green room (which wasn’t really green and didn’t have much in the way of food, as I recall). That was awesome.
  • Some of those races are really close O_o
  • Not in the city, though, sadly. 🙁
  • Oh ho ho, and it was Richard’s sister who took my ballot. Then again, the only other time I remember seeing her is at 7 am in the morning five years ago, so…
  • I have nothing to say about Jack Layton. This makes me sad. I’m glad his wife got elected, though. That’s going to make for some good newspaper fodder in the months ahead.
  • I thought it was kind of obvious that a Liberal-NDP coalition was a possibility even before the TV guys swarmed all over it. I also thought it was equally obvious that it wasn’t really going to happen, especially given that the last time such a coalition was formed was in 1925. I mean…. really.
  • Oh, I do have something to say about Jack Layton after all. I was disappointed that his supporters booed Harper. Not really necessary, and it just makes you look like sore losers anyway. And this coming from someone who really, really doesn’t like Harper!
  • Do you ever wonder what those ‘congratulatory’ phone calls are like? “Hey, Steve? It’s Paul. Good job on the election, buddy. ‘Grats.”
  • I really wonder who the one “other” candidate elected is.
  • Did I mention that Steven Harper is scary?

There is only one word to describe this site, and it is “awesome.” XD

MyStickies lets you put little yellow post-it notes all over the Internet! Okay, so I haven’t really found a practical use for this yet besides “it’s fun.” Still, I suppose that if you needed to make notes to yourself about the content of a certain page, this is one way to do it.

Another, of course, is to use del.icio.us, which is a “social bookmarking system,” or just a fancy phrase “something which lets you see what other people think is worth your time.” I’ve found some very cool sites (including the one above!) this way, although the popular sites tend to be a little heavy on the IT nerd-type things.

Posted a few days late because WP was acting up.

A couple of musings after watching about ten minutes of the French debate–closing statements and random “oh, let’s see what they’re talking about” moments (politics isn’t my favourite thing in the world):

  • Why does the Bloc Québécois even exist? Yeah, yeah, to speak for Québec, to promote sovereignty, yadda yadda yadda. But it can never form a majority government, and even if it won all the seats it could and formed a minority government, what would it do? Declare immediate separation? Dunno if the 50%+1 who voted non in the last referendum would like that.
  • New thing I learned: Paul Martin is Québécois? QUOI?! Not only that, he’s got Métis ancestry? Double QUOI?!
  • Yes, Steven Harper, we know that French is not your first language. Thanks for clumsily bringing it to our attention again. Also, you’re still scary.
  • The subjunctive, Mr. Layton, the subjunctive!

Ahhh, my mouse is slowly dying on me. It keeps double-clicking when I only mean to single-click. And the volume down button on my mp3 player doesn’t work anymore. 🙁

I hope you all had a good New Year’s.

Okay, a couple of new things about this mostly painless upgrade to WP 2.0:

  • You can now edit your comments within thirty minutes of posting it. Give it a try; once your comment has been posted, you’ll see a little “e” link there, next to the date and time. Click that to enter editing mode.
  • I now have two anti-spam plugins working for me. By my reckoning, I’ve had about 17000 spam comments attack my blog over the time that it’s been up. That’s kind of scary, since there are only about 500 real comments.
  • Haha, I lied, there really is only the one new thing, the editing comments part.

The new interface is quite shiny, but alas! It takes a little longer to load on my memory-starved computer.

Classes so far this term, in emoticons:

Physical Chemistry: 😯
Organic Chemistry: :notsure:
French Grammar:
French Literature: :nosey:

And for those of you who prefer words….

Updating to WordPress 2.0. I know the smilies don’t work; I’m working on it. Really. And I’m probably going to be drowning in comment spam until I upgrade that plugin, too.

Ahh, I wish this were more painless.

So…. a month after it comes out, I finally get to watch Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. It was so worth it :star: So, so worth it. Now, because I just got home and my thoughts are all ajumble (due mostly to an effort to recount to my brother what was omitted from the film), you get a stream of consciousness version, in point form, of my thoughts on the movie.

So after throwing up the default layout for WP and not doing anything about it, I have finally decided that winter is as good a time as any to actually change the layout. So I went on my usual image scrounge and played with that a bit. Usually, that would be the hard part. But ever since WP 1.5 came along, I’ve been completely unable to overcome their gigantic stylesheets of doom.

So here I am, patiently defining how I want each and every term to look on the index page (which took a while–my CSS is a little rusty) and then I realize I have to do it again for the individual entry page. And the page page. I’m beginning to think the stylesheets will never end!

I should have this one up tomorrow today, and hopefully another to follow soon. Maybe the second will be easier.

//edit: Okay, so here it is. It probably looks horrible in IE, but really, I don’t care anymore XP You IE users should all switch to Firefox, anyway. Yeah, and you Mac users too! XP

//double edit: Why can’t I stop listening to the DDR remix of “The Phantom of the Opera”? It must be that hunger for musicals seeping in…
