I would like to address what I think is a rather disturbing trend.

It’s young people who are charging for custom layouts.

Yes. I’m sorry. I just don’t think this is a good idea. It just seems a little wrong to me somehow…. I mean, every layout is different. How can you put a price on a splash image? On CSS coding?

You have to understand this: I am not bashing the professionals. No no no no no. I admire these people greatly. They HAVE to cater to different operating systems, browsers, resolutions… the list goes on. No, these people deserve every cent they get.

Kids… on the other hand. Think about it this way. If you ran a business website, you’re not going to ask a thirteen-year-old to design your website. Most kids learned probably learned HTML through a website (such as {{link http://www.lissaexplains.com/}}) or just copied others’ code and meddled with it. I’m sure the professionals have spent a lot of time (and probably money) learning how to do webdesign.

I can recognize that programs like PS and PSP cost a lot of money. But–think about it–those programs aren’t NECESSARY for webdesign. Heck, I use a program that came with my friend’s printer. Sure, I can’t use brushes and layers and things like that, but I compensate. There are other ways to make a webpage look attractive.

Last but not least–the designs some of these kids have on their own pages–they–well–are not that appealing to me. I don’t know what the point of that was. I just think that perhaps kids these days are placing too much emphasis on money. It’s certainly nice to be able to make money off something that one enjoys. But when it’s taken to this point, it just doesn’t seem realistic to me.

I don’t know why I find this disturbing. Perhaps it’s the fact that these kids think that they are equal to people who have taken courses and such to get to the point where they are today.
