I still manage to procrastinate by translating things. Who would have guessed. Anyway, the story behind this song? it’s off Mes Aïeux’s old album En Famille, which also features the brilliant song “Dégénerations.” This one’s a bit sweeter, though.

Your skin
Is my flag
Our bed is my country
The cross
On my back
I forgot it for a moment
And even if the
Blue and white wind
Spins me right round 1The original mentions a girouette – a weathervane. This was way too many syllables, so I just left it out. Plus I thought it sounded awkward.
Here
Now
I’m only thinking of you

No church, no speech
No ring and no ceremony
No contract, no detours
My whole body says ‘yes’ to you
No church, no speech
No ring and no ceremony
No contract, no detours
My whole soul says it to you…

My father gave me a laurel branch
I’ll leave it on your doorstep
The lily blossomed in the garden of my love
The bird in his nest will take off one day

No church, no speech
No ring and no ceremony
No contract, no detour
My whole life says ‘yes’ to you
No church, no speech
No ring and no ceremony
No contract, no detour
I’ll tell you with everything I am

Your skin
Is my only flag
Our bed is my country
And tomorrow
In our hands
We’ll see a new life being born

Next to my girl… 2This song samples and references a folk song, “Auprès de ma blonde”.
