My printer died.

Or, rather, the cartridge died. The printer won’t detect it anymore. When I stick the old one in, it makes all the right noises, but I only hear silence when I stick the newer one in.

So, it seems like it’s just a simple matter of buying a new cartridge, right? Sure. Except this is an inkjet printer, and the cartridge costs more than the printer did. The printer’s lasted for over 5 years, but now it’s making funny noises even I try to print with the old cartridge, and…

The cartridge costs around $70. There’s a Canon printer on Amazon going for around $40. Sad world, isn’t it?

Printers are astoundingly evil. I wonder why laser printers aren’t more popular, considering the problems that seem to plague inkjets? Good luck with yours, anyway.

I have never had a problem with my laser printer & we’ve had it for 4 or 5 years. Actually, there was a time when the mechanism which makes sure that only one page goes through the machine broke down, but that was quickly remedied with a replacement part given out by the UBC bookstore.
You hardly ever have to replace the cartridge, but they do cost around 100 bucks. They still find a way to rip you off.

I cannot even begin to comprehend why ink is so bloody expensive. It’s gotten to a point where I print everything I can at the labs at school and reserve my home printer for last minute things or emergencies, to save my ink supply. Sad. By the way, your smilies are ADORABLE! :cheerful:

Sami Says:

We should bury our printers together. Dead printer buddies!

Printers are evil 😛 But since it’s been 5 years already, it might be time to let it go?
